Kellie and her Pregnancy updates

This is a picture of Kellie (take note of her little belly, she is at 17 weeks now), with her Zofran PICC line. As mentioned in the earlier post, she was put on the pump, but she was having difficulties with the needles and being stabbed everyday, and getting some bad swelling, that she begged for a PICC line. For those that don't know what that is, (We know it well as Rick had 3 of these) it is a surgical procedure where they insert a tube in her main artery in her arm and into her heart. The meds then go directly into her blood stream, 24/7. She had the pump for about 8 weeks. And since she was doing much better, it was finally taken out on October 27th, 2009

However, because Kellie continued to Black out, the Cardiologist put her on a heart monitor on October 22, 2009 to be worn 24/7. So for a few days she carried around two different monitors. The heart monitor will stay on her for 3 weeks, just to make sure there is nothing wrong there. They expect everything to be fine, just ruling out at this point.

AND now for the latest update!!!!!
On October 26th, 2009 Kellie went back to the doctor for a check up (which is done weekly) and they decided to do the ultra sound a week early. And guess what they found out?????

Yes, to everyone's surprise, they are definitely NOT having a girl! They are having a little BOY!!!!! We are all really excited, but now it's time for them to pick out a boy's name......

Kellie having a rough pregnancy

Well, this last week or so has been really rough on Kellie. As soon as she hit about 7 weeks she started getting morning sickness. Although it was all day every day! The doctor gave her some meds, hoping that would help, but things continued to get worse.
On Friday, August 28th, The doctor had Kellie go to the Emergency Room as she had been blacking out numerous times a day since Wednesday. After spending 11 hours there, it was diagnosed that Kellie was "Pregnant and Fainting"! NO KIDDING! They told her to follow up with her doctor.
By the following Tuesday, September 1st, Her blacking out was becoming much worse and her blood pressure continued dropping. (84/54 or so). She called the doctor's office and the nurse told her this was normal for early pregnancy, but if she wanted to come in to come get checked out. So we did. While at the doctors' office Kellie blacked out again. The nurse witnessed it and said, "That is NOT normal". The doctor came in and immediately admitted Kellie into the hospital. (She had also lost 8 pounds in about 3 weeks).
So, to the hospital we went. Kellie was there until Thursday evening. A cardiologist was called in and many tests were run. They still are not exactly sure what is going on and further testing will be done at the cardiologist office. However, they believe that because Kellie was so sick, she lost the weight, (that she couldn't afford to lose) and that caused her blood pressure to drop down to low, which caused the blacking out and fainting spells.
She was sent home and put on in home care. She has a Zofran medicated pump that administers Zofran 24/7. This seems to be working somewhat, however Kellie hates needles and every day we need to move the needle site to a different location. (that's mom's job to do). A in home nursing facility calls every morning for her vitals and has been really good at helping out when help is needed.
If Kellie does not start to gain weight, they will admit her back in the hospital until this stage of the pregnancy ends. (however long that takes). So we hope the medications kick in and she is able to start eating better. They are Very pleased at her liquid level intake though.
We will keep you updated. Alex is doing a great job taking care of his wife and baby. And somehow, I wish I would have gone to nursing school. After all this, I should qualify for my nursing degree! LOL

July 22nd started the events that led up to the big graduation! It all started with the kids doing the traditional burning of the notes! Then with family and friends, July 23rd was the graduation day. We attended a banquet dinner, and then the graduation ceremony began. 1066 graduates from BYU-I. After having a very eventful year, getting married, having 2 surgeries and being in and out of the hospital several times, she managed to pull through and do an outstanding job!
After the graduation, we had a get together with family and friends to help Kellie celebrate! Thank you to all who came out to share in this celebration with us!

Kellie count down to Graduation

Finally! Kellie is counting down till she graduates from BYU-Idaho. Her big day is July 23, 2009. She had to change her major the last semester as she was not able to play the harp as needed to get her Music degree. (because of having shoulder surgery in August 2008).
So her degree will be in University Studies with a minor in Music and also a minor in Marriage and Family Studies.
We are very proud of her and her accomplishments. It has been a very hard year for her with all her health issues, but she has still been able to pull off graduating with High Honors.
Also a huge thanks to Alex who has sacrificed his time in helping Kellie and all she has gone through. This has not been easy for them, but they continue on and have kept strong.
Congratulations Kellie!!!

Side Note.... Kellie also has an Associate of Arts degree in Music from College of the Mainland (Texas)

Another surgery for Kellie May 5, 2009

After 7 months of severe pain, the doctor finally decided it was time to go in and do surgery to see what exactly was going on. (instead of all the guess work).
It's was a long day, but thanks to all the prayers, everything went well and we were able to get some long awaited answers.

They went in and did find endometriosis, did a D n C, and the dye through the fallopian tubes. Plus he did an exploratory to check other organs. The surgery took about an hour.

The findings were....
Several spots of endometriosis, which he was able to remove most of them. There was some under her uterus, which he was not able to get to without causing harm, so he left that for now. He also found alot of scar tissue on the end of the right fallopian tube which he was not able to repair. He did surgically get a hole through the scar tissue but does not know if it will do any good. He also found alot of scar tissue on the appendics. Not sure why there either, but where it was at, he was not able to remove either. The appendics may have to be looked at later, but not a concern at this point. As for the other endometrosis, he will give her shots and meds for the next 6 months. He is hoping that will take care of the endometriosis he was not able to get to. However, if the scaring on the fallopoian tube is caused from endometriosis, the shots and meds he puts her on, should hopefully clear that up. If it is caused from some infection, the fallopian is pretty much lost and cannot be fixed. So only time will tell. Her other fallopian tube is functioning and fully healthy.
She could still be in pain for the next 6 months while doing the other treatment, however, now they at least know what they are dealing with. She is now out for the week and will return to the doctor next Monday before I fly home.
We are very pleased with the information we received today.
Thank you so much for all your love, prayers and concerns. Kellie said she felt very at peace before going in to surgery and was more calm than she could imagine.

Since the surgery, she has been in very little pain and has been recovering very well. She said for this supposing to be a painful recovery, it is NOTHING compared to what she has been through the last 7 months.

End of the semester

Kellie and Alex join Kassie and friends to burn their Sciene note cards. I take it they didn't like this class and were all glad to have the class over! So it was time to celebrate and enjoy s'mores! What a way to end the semester!

Kellie's health issues continue...

People were wanting to know an update on Kellie... so this is what we know so far (as of today).

The OB/GYN has decided that he does need to go in and do surgery. (For what he believes is Endometriosis). However, he wants Kellie to be seen by a Gastroenterologist first as he believes there is more to her health issues than just the endometroisis. When he gets the clearance from the Gastroenterologist that all is well on his end, he will set up surgery for Kellie. However, if they do find another issue, they will work together (both doctors) to schedule surgery at the same time. Because of blood reports coming back, they believe there could be a kidney problem or intestinal problem.
When Alex talked with the OB/GYN today, the doctor was very good with explaining everything to Alex. The doctor does not want to go in and then be unprepared on what he may find. He did warn them that he does not expect this to be an easy surgery, which will mean that Kellie may not be able to attend school next semester, and graduation will be moved to December instead of July.
(They do not have an opening for Kellie to be seen until April 14th, unless there is a cancellation) but at least they know that doctor's are moving forward. Kellie had a really bad weekend again and missed classes again today, and just really wants to get back to normal. This has been going on since October and they would really like to know what "Normal" marriage life is like. (like there is such a thing).
We will keep you posted on the latest as we hear. Until then, thank you for keeping her (and Alex) in your prayers. We (and they) appreciate it!

A winter experience January 26, 2009

Well, at least they decided to leave for school early incase the car didn't start as it was an extremely cold night last night.... Kellie had to call and tell me this fun experience they had!

Kellie and Alex went to leave for their morning classes when they realized the front door would not open. Alex tried and tried, but it wouldn't budge!!! It was frozen shut!!! He told Kellie to go get the hair dryer so they could use it to defrost the door. Only problem... Kellie doesn't use one so didn't have one! So, next Alex decided he would try the window... Frozen shut! So, it was time to get out the hot water. That wasn't working either so it was time to call Kassie and her
room-mate for help. After making a mess with water and 30 minutes later, they made their
way out!
Lesson learned... guess what they are doing this afternoon??? Going out to by a hair dryer. Not for Kellie and Alex, but to defrost the door!
Gotta love those BYU winter experiences!

PS.... pictures will be coming soon

Update from BYU-Idaho

Kellie and Alex got moved into their apartment!!! Now they finally have a place they can call home for at least a year or two. Soon after though, Kellie again did something to her shoulder and had to get it checked. The x-rays look fine, but the shoulder is swollen and she is in pain.
She also is continuing to have stomache pains and has been referred to a really good specialist in Rexburg. Several people have recommended this doctor, so hopefully we can get some answers. Time will tell.....
In the meantime, they have been enjoying their new place and we look forward to going out to
Idaho sometime in the future to see the decorating skills!
